Catholic Social Teaching – The Common Good – Faith in Action

An essential part of the Catholic faith is the Catholic Social Teaching principles.  One of The Douay Martyrs Catholic School strong aspects is fundraising.  As a Catholic school we believe that it is important that we live out our faith and use the gifts and talents that God has given each of us to serve our neighbours in need.  Our charity Ambassadors for Christ work closely with our School Chaplain and the junior students to plan a range of fundraising activities: selling homemade cakes, Readathons, raffles, charity bag packing at local supermarkets and many other sponsored events. We also support our local community through donating non-perishable food items to our local foodbanks.  Thus all members of the school community become aware that their faith journey should be accompanied by acts of good deeds and responding to Jesus’ words, ‘Where were you when I needed you.’(Mt. 25)

Over the years we as a school community have raised thousands of pounds for numerous charities, locally and internationally: CAFOD, Macmillan, Catholic Children’s Society, Local Hospitals, the Cardinal Hume charity, The Passage – charity for the homeless, Mary’s Meals, SVP, Lourdes and many more.   In addition to this, hundreds of bags of clothing have been donated to the S.V.P, Asylum and Refugee Appeals.
