Supporting students with Special Educational Needs

The aim of the Special Educational Needs Department at The Douay Martyrs Catholic Secondary School is to ensure that all students have access to a wide, balanced and appropriate curriculum in line with the school’s mission statement.

Support is offered to students in a range of formats depending on an individual’s needs, this could include differentiation of classwork, small group work, LSA support or other in-school interventions. The Douay Martyrs Catholic Secondary School also works with a range of external agents including: Educational Psychologist, Speech and Language Therapist and a Hearing Advisory Teacher to ensure positive outcomes for all students.

Accelerated Reader

The Accelerated Reader program is a computerised program that tests reading and comprehension. Students select books on their reading level, read independently, and take an independent comprehension test on the computer. Each book is worth a certain number of points based on its length and reading level.
