Our aim is to create a vibrant, safe, supportive school environment that allows our young people to develop into life long learners and to engage with as wide a range of experiences as possible in order to develop their cultural capital and understanding of the opportunities that await them.
“Education cannot be neutral. The mission of schools is to develop a sense of truth, of what is good and beautiful. And this occurs through a rich path made up of many ingredients. These elements enable us to grow and help us to love life. True education enables us to love life and opens us to the fullness of life.”
Pope Francis, May 2014
At the heart of the Douay way is a lived faith, centred on and enriched by the teachings and example of Jesus Christ. It is the source of all that imbues our vibrant and rich school life.
The Douay school community is a welcoming one, in which, all our young people are loved, cared for and accepted for who they are which reflects our shared and mutual respect for all. The ethos of the school is tangible and is experienced through the positive relationships between both students and staff and between students themselves.
School life at Douay Martyrs provides many opportunities for our children to flourish spiritually, morally as well as academically and to equip them with the skills they need to prepare them for life in today’s world. Students are encouraged to strive for excellence in all its forms and to discern and develop their individual, gifts, talents and skills for the service of the school and the wider community.
Our young people are encouraged to get involved in our school community in many ways; through the student ambassador programme, the school council, Diocesan youth leadership programmes and the House system. In addition to this, students have the opportunity to take part in school productions, musical events as well as representing the school in local and regional sporting events.
Combining traditional Catholic values with a 21st Century education, we aim to guide our young people ‘through faith to success’, thus enabling them to effect change and make a positive difference in the world.
