    Creatives Club

The Drama Department in conjunction with the Media Department will be offering Creatives Club weekly from Monday 19th February onwards. This is an excellent opportunity for KS3 and KS4 pupils to learn how to take an idea from its initial beginnings through storyboarding to a prepared script with fully drawn out characters.

Hopefully this will prove a springboard from which to consider how to develop these scripts into full realised movies.

The club will run in G5 on a Monday at lunchtime. It will be overseen by Ms O’Reilly and Miss Khanna, assisted by the AS Media students.

    Lights, Camera, Action!!

    https://www.digitaltheatreplus.com/education

Login details for all students are:

    Username: digitaltheatre@douaymartyrs.co.uk

    Password: digitaldouay2

    It is a collection of:

    - Professional recorded performances

    - Interview with arts practitioners

    - Lesson resources

    - Written analysis resources.

It has revision guides for specific plays as well as GCSE Drama. Please have a look as there are resources for a number of different subjects such as History and Biology. They are always adding new material to their catalogue.

We are currently working on performance analysis through the use of fairy tales characters in Drama. So, the Year 7 form tutors will be enriching this learning experience by finding opportunities to allow the pupils to watch ‘Into the Woods’ by Stephen Sondheim. The Year 7 pupils, as well as the form tutors, are finding the performance magical and delightful.

  • Drama GCSE Year 11 Devising Exams

    Published 07/02/18

Drama GCSE Year 11 Devising Exams

The GCSE Drama pupils have been working hard on their practical performances for their recent Devising Exam. There were three groups working under the theme of ‘Oppression’. This resulted in three contrasting performances covering a variety of subject matter.

One group explore the topic of Human Trafficking as Heathrow Airport is considered a ‘port of entry’ for young people which mean Hillingdon Council have put provisions into place to protect theses vulnerable young people.

Another group explored the life story of Emmeline Pankhurst who was a famous suffragette. She died under the feet of the kings horse at the Kings Derby in an attempt to highlight the injustice suffered by women at that time.

The final group took a variety of people from history and sought to find the similarities and differences between their fights for their rights to be recognised in their society.

They were all assisted immensely by Bradley Varney in Year 11 who assisted by creating an individual lighting design form each group using the high specification equipment in the department. He, in turn, was assisted by Adam Fawaz, Year 8, during the final stages before the exam performances.

All involved should be very proud of their achievements!

  • The Drama GCSE students went to see a matinee performance of Saint George & the Dragon at the National Theatre.

    Saint George & the Dragon

The Drama GCSE pupils went to see a matinee performance of Saint George & the Dragon at the National Theatre by upcoming playwright Rory Mullarkey. This is a new folk tale for an uneasy nation as it takes the aiuge old hero Saint George as he tackles foes from the Middle Ages, Victorian times and a modern day nemesis’. It was directed by Lyndsey Turner (Chimerica, Light Shining in Buckinghamshire), with John Heffernan (Oppenheimer, Edward II) as George.

It was a delightfully designed production with some excellent ensemble acting form the company. It gave much food for thought on the current political landscape as well as many ingenious ideas for setting. The GCSE pupils will be using these as inspiration for their forthcoming practical exams next term.
